I’m honoured to have been invited as a Patron of Conservatives for Mental Health.
For too long there has unfairly been a stigma associated with those suffering mental health issues but for many of us in our lives the challenges its many various conditions can bring is a reality that can’t, shouldn’t and mustn’t be ignored.
There’s still a long way to go but I pay tribute to the Prime Minister, Theresa May, for taking a lead by committing significantly more funding than ever previously seen to better support those struggling with mental health, and not just through the NHS, but also by dedicated help being introduced in every school.
Mental health doesn’t discriminate, affecting all ages, races and genders, that’s why, and more importantly than just extra money to tackle the issue, for the first time in our history mental health is now officially given the same status as physical health as a priority.
Of course, sadly, people will continue to be affected by mental health in the future but now they need not feel alone, isolated or even ashamed.
The positive benefits to our society of addressing this area are very significant and so I sincerely thank Drusilla Summers for having the courage, dedication and foresight to establish Conservatives for Mental Health.
